About 13 years ago, Mdm Hadijah began her career in the healthcare sector. As she carried out her duties as a healthcare assistant at the Institute of Mental Health, her supervisor began to notice the potential Mdm Hadijah had, and encouraged her to upgrade herself by registering in courses to enable her to become an enrolled nurse. Ever since then, Mdm Hadijah has received many accolades and recognition such as the Humanitarian Healthcare award in 2012, the IMH Star Award in 2016, and the Tan Chin Tuan Nursing Award, with merit, last week.
Ms. Yap Su-Yin, CEO of the Tan Chin Tuan Foundation and representative of the Tan Sri Tan Foundation together with Dato’ Richard Ong was pleased to have met the scholars they have helped sponsored together with their families. “As society pushes for excellence in every field, we recognise that education must be holistic, empowering and anchored in wholesome values. These qualities are apparent in the Lasallian brand of education. We are optimistic that the scholars, cultivated as they are by excellent teachers and mentors, will do their family, school, country and benefactors proud.” said Su-Yin.
Some of our children under the ISCOS Fairy Godparent Programme were invited to a special book launch at the Enabling Village on 2 September 2017. This was held under the More Than Words programme, a signature work by the Tan Chin Tuan Foundation.
While the 11 children and 6 adults who went enjoyed the storytelling and art and craft activities very much, the highlight of the day was the launch of a new book “To Gather, Together” where two of our beneficiaries’ stories were chosen and published, much to their delight. A big thank-you to the Tan Chin Tuan Foundation for passing on the love for the written word!
As part of NAFA’s community engagement, more than 20 volunteers from the Tan Chin Tuan Foundation and NAFA staff, students and volunteers spent two weeks in May to paint a wall mural at the Society for the Aged Sick. The beautiful wall mural, which depicts images of Singapore’s iconic objects and historic events from the past and present, was designed by NAFA scholars from the Tan Chin Tuan Foundation. The wall mural was officially launched on 6 August 2017 in conjunction with Singapore’s National Day celebrations, together with a skit written and performed by NAFA scholars and NAFA theatre students.
With support from Tan Chin Tuan Foundation, 12 student-led groups from Anglo-Chinese Junior College engaged in Project Cheer 2017. The students learnt to plan and execute a day of activities involving children and elderly from different charities and developed community awareness and empathy during the process. Project Cheer, which started in 2014, is one of TCTF’s signature programmes and serves as a platform for multi-generational bonding between the young and elderly in Singapore.
Apart from improving lives in the community, Yong-en Care Centre chooses to invest time and effort in purposeful internships so that students will be exposed to the needs on the ground and have first-hand engagement with clients and beneficiaries. On 6 July, Ms Yap Su-Yin, CEO of Tan Chin Tuan Foundation, was invited to share her perspectives as a senior leader while Yong-en interns from various educational institutions shared about their project learnings. TCTF’s gift to Yong-en this year was used to support the interns’ allowance.
