The Tan Chin Tuan Foundation hosted a Scholars’ Tea session on 31 October 2016 for NAFA staff and recipients of the Tan Chin Tuan Scholarships & Merit Awards of AY2016/17. Held at the Tan Chin Tuan Mansion, the tea session was a platform for the council members and senior management of Tan Chin Tuan Foundation, award recipients and NAFA representatives to interact, and also allowed the recipients to learn more about the foundation and the legacy of their founder, Tan Sri (Dr) Tan Chin Tuan.

In her 30 years at the Singapore General Hospital’s (SGH) department of emergency medicine, principal enrolled nurse Ms Nasah Sohor has gone above and beyond the call of duty to help patients. On Tuesday, Ms Nasah won the first prize of the Tan Chin Tuan Nursing Award, the highest accolade for enrolled nurses here. She received a challenge trophy, a gold medallion and a $3,500 cash prize to be used for training. The Tan Chin Tuan Nursing Award was set up in memory of the late banker and philanthropist Tan Chin Tuan 10 years ago.

40 years ago, the sudden death of her father left Ms Nasah Sohor with a deep regret. However, she used her pain as the driving force to become an enrolled nurse. With her spirit of selfless dedication, Ms Nasah received the Challenge Trophy for the Tan Chin Tuan Nursing Award from Senior Minister of State for Health Dr Amy Khor. The award, founded by the D.S. Lee Foundation, entered its tenth year this year. A total of 10 outstanding nurses from private and public hospitals, from 45 nominations stood out to receive the industry’s highest local accolade for Enrolled Nurses.

Two Malay enrolled nurses awarded the Tan Chin Tuan Nursing Award

Two Malay enrolled nurses, Ms Nasah Sohor and Ms Rostihar Abdul Karim, were awarded first and second place at the 10th Tan Chin Tuan Nursing Award for Enrolled Nurses. Ms Nasah Sohor, 53, was crowned the overall winner of the award, which is the highest accolade awarded to enrolled nurses. All finalists were chosen from 45 nominations covering 22 public health and private institutions. They are judged on their efficiency and conduct in the professional field as well individual contributions.

FGP Beneficiaries Invited to the Tan Chin Tuan Foundation Showcase

Children beneficiaries from the Yellow Ribbon Fund-ISCOS Fairy Godparent Programme (FGP) were invited by the Tan Chin Tuan Foundation to its More Than Words Showcase. One of the highlights for this year’s showcase was the launch of a special book featuring the artworks of eleven FGP beneficiaries. These artworks were completed during a creative writing workshop with TCTF back in March 2016.

More than 70 CareHut beneficiaries performed a hip-hop dance and a drama item after attending a two-month programme of creative arts workshops sponsored by the Tan Chin Tuan Foundation (TCTF). “The programme has given the children an opportunity to express themselves creatively as well as inspire them to value determination and courage. The performance held at Anglo-Chinese School (Independent), was a milestone event for some of the lower primary children, who have never performed for such a large audience before,” shared CareHut supervisor Brenda Chong.
