This tea session serves for present scholars to know more about the Foundation, the works that we do and meet charities they can volunteer with. Halogen Foundation, YMCA, Students Care Service and NUS joined in at the tea session to engage student volunteers.

The afternoon after the residents had their lunch, started with a game of bingo led by Angie Monksfield (Buddhist Fellowship). Volunteers quickly spread themselves around the room to assist the elderly in the game while the numbers were called out in English, Mandarin and in dialect so that everyone could understand. After the game, residents were treated to freshly baked cake and drinks before being entertained by performances from the Buddhist fellowship choir. The elderly were engaged by the upbeat songs and started dancing with the volunteers. Volunteers spread across the room to lead the elderly in clapping along to the tempo and singing with the choir.

Their audience, the elderly at the Home arrived early eager to be entertained and entertain they were.
There was a band performance led by Tan Jiat Chow and singers who sung various songs in English and Cantonese. There was also a folk dance. The elderly were so entertained and happy, they wanted more and even joined in and danced along with the volunteers.
The residents enjoyed their musical filled morning. The volunteers assisted in accompanying the residents back to their rooms for lunch.

The Tan Chin Tuan Foundation started Project Solid Gold (黄金年华) in 2008. The Foundation installed mirrors, bars, pulleys, as well as hand and foot paddle wheel. It had improved the facilities of many senior activity centres and homes for the aged.

Read MoreTCTF in partnership with Singapore Lyric Opera (SLO) invited Children-At-Risk Empowerment Singapore (CARE.sg) to a workshop at MICA building. There, the youths were introduced to different African sounds created by African musical instruments.
They were taught the difference between the original Mozart version and the African version. The youths were quick to learn and were able to differentiate the instruments used for the various musical pieces during the “Magic Flute” performance.
After the introductory workshop, the students had he chance to experience a real opera at the Victoria Theatre by African troupe presenting the “Magic Flute”. The performance was part of the Singapore Arts Festival.

Read MoreEleven of SimTech musically inclined staff treated over 120 seniors of Kheng Chiu Loke Tin Kee Home at Tampines with Mandarin, Cantonese and English evergreens. Their efforts towards making sure that the seniors had a good time were reflected towards the myriad of musical equipment brought to the centre, from a drum set, to guitars, a cello, a harmonica and not forgetting their beautiful voices. Song sheets were and given out (with larger fonts) to the seniors to encourage them to sing along. Serenaded were they for 30 minutes in which the musical performance ended on a high note with a brilliant harmonica solo by one of the Volunteers. Her performance simple took out breaths away.
The musical morning was followed by rounds of Boccia, umpired by three volunteers from Student Volunteer Corps. These seniors enthusiastically lined up to play the game. Wilma, the centre manager smoothly helped the volunteers translate game instructions in Hokkien and gave live commentary on the game.
Time passed quickly and whilst lunch was served half an hour late, the seniors were happy to have had a fruitful morning, wrapped up with a simple but scrumptious lunch.

Residents were entertained by two very talented young ladies from NAFA followed by a fun game of Boccia taught by Ivan, from SVC then lunch.
Ms Lichin played while Ms Liyang, both students from NAFA, sang for elderly. The elderly felt like they were transported back in time. Later, they were engrossed themselves to a game of Boccia taught by Ivan, the President of SVC. They were soo engrossed in the game they did not even want to stop for lunch.
TCTF is happy to be able to bring joy and change to their routine lives.

The Saturday, the seniors at the Pertapis Senior Citizen Fellowship Home were treated to a hearty VIP welcome by the Kompang Team of Jamiyah Children’s home. This was followed by a Malay Tarian (dance) by five young sweet dancers, and the boisterous Dikit Barat by the boys of Jamiyah Home.
Some of the nenek (senior ladies) could not hesitate not joining in the fun. They showed the young dancers some moves and despite their age, they still showed their mettle.
Lunch was served progressively, and the youths helped served food, and chatted with the seniors. Post lunch, the youths also lingered around, chatting with the seniors, listening to the tales of the ladies there.
