24 Apr 2013

On Wednesday, 24 April 2013, the foundation, together with 11 volunteers brought our “More Than Words” Programme to 19 primary school children, aged 9 to 12, from the Families-in-Transit and Tuition Programmes of Lakeside Family Centre. In line with TCTF’s focus on education and community development, the programme was initiated in 2013 in the hope of encouraging better communication between individuals that stems from the heart.

Themed “My Favourite Things!” the children were tasked to save an imaginary character, Julie, by finding her memories. The volunteers, who planned the whole programme, incorporated elements of story-telling, comic writing and role-playing in the literacy games. With every successful completed task, the children became a step closer in helping Julie regain her memory.

The two hour session included a tea break treat by the foundation where the children enjoyed the puffs and cakes whilst interacting with their fellow ‘teacher’ volunteers. The session proved to be a success when the children claimed that it was educational, yet fun and that generally, they felt more confident communicating with others now!
