Creative Writing Workshop

5 Jun 2014

The foundation’s first “More Than Words” Creative Writing Workshop held in partnership with Janus Education was held on Thursday, 5 June 2014. 57 children from four TCTF-supported organisations- Fei Yue Family Service Centre (Bukit Batok), Lakeside Family Services, New Life Community Services and PPIS Student Care Centre (Jurong), took part in the creative writing workshop, under the guidance of 15 mentors from Janus Education and TCTF scholar-volunteers.

During the 1-day workshop, the children explored the theme “Singapore 2114: My Dream, Our Future” through a series of discussion, watching related videos, drawing and writing. From teleportation to underwater cities, the imagination of the children knows no boundaries! To build their confidence in public speaking, they were also encouraged to present their ideas in front of their peers. Little tokens were given out to groups who exhibited team spirit and creativity.

Through this workshop, TCTF hopes this will inspire the little ones to not only improve their communication skills but also to think creatively. Contributions by our young friends will be compiled into a collection of Singapore stories by children for children, allowing them to blossom into young authors. We hope this experience has inspired them to continue writing creatively!
