National Day Celebration

13 Aug 2011

On the 13 Aug 2011, Saturday, 500 beneficiaries from the elderly and youth clusters were invited to share and celebrate in the Tan Chin Tuan Foundation’s National Day Celebration event – A Walk Down Memory Lane.

The event was held at ACS Barker Road with beneficiaries treated to an hour long concert that consisted of acts ranging from the ACSBR Chinese orchestra troupe to an Indian dance item led by Hwa Chong Institution. We had the privilege of also having the performers from the following groups, Y-Stars (YMCA), YMCA Korean Mums, Dance@ACS and Happy Mondays ending the concert with their rendition of the song ‘Home’ composed by Dick Lee and sung by four students from the Little Arts Academy. It was a song aptly chosen to end the concert as it brought to mind the reason why we called Singapore, Our Home.

The festivities ended with a dinner reception held for all guests and volunteers. Boy Scouts from ACS Barker were helpfully serving the elderly guests with food and dessert that included local delights such as Mee Siam and Attap Chee (Palm Nut) ice cream servedon a cone, cup and/or traditionally and memorably on good old fashioned multi-coloured bread. Many of the beneficiaries left the venue sated with food and good cheer; and wide smiles were seen on every face leaving the premise that evening.
