The 14th Tan Chin Tuan Award for Enrolled Nurses was held on 19 November 2020. In this unprecedented year marked by Covid-19, the hybrid event was held at SNA House and via Zoom. The Award was established by Dr Della Suantio Lee, Chairman of D.S. Lee Foundation in 2006 to honour our founder, Tan Sri (Dr) Tan Chin Tuan.
Guest-of-Honour Dr Koh Poh Koon, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Health, TCTF Council Members and guests from TCTF-supported charities attended the virtual event via Zoom. TCTF Deputy Chairman Ms Chew Gek Khim presented the awards to the top 3 winners and delivered the Closing Address.
The Overall Champion was clinched by Principal Enrolled Nurse, Ms Fatimah Binte Taha Suhaimi from Changi General Hospital, who has 31 years of nursing experience. She is highly motivated to improve her skills and uphold the values and standards of care rendered to patients, doing so with courage and perseverance. She juggled her role while raising her children as a single parent and now provides mentorship to younger nurses. Nursing is her passion which she sustains through her belief that it is an honest wage and of service to the community. This has also inspired her children to work in healthcare.
Heartiest congratulations also to runners-up Principal Assistant Nurse, Ms Ow Yong Lai Chan from Institute of Mental Health and Ms Yew Xue Ling, Principal Enrolled Nurse from Sengkang General Hospital as well as the other 7 finalists.
We commend their compassion, patience and excellence shown in this noble profession! Our warmest appreciation to Dr Della Lee and D.S. Lee Foundation for their unwavering support for enrolled nurses and the committee from Singapore Nurses Association for organising the event.
