The New Stella Maris General Hospital had its grand opening on 3 December 2009. This was a joint Singaporean-Indonesian effort between TCTF, Singapore Red Cross Society, World Federation of Catholic Medical Associations, SCMM Sister Congregation and Perdhaki.
With over $2 million in funding from the Tidal Wave Asia Fund, as well as from donors including the Lee Foundation, Salim Group, Archdiocese Crisis Coordination Team and TCTF, the 60-bed hospital, with operating facilities, pharmacy and outpatient departments, was built to raise the level of needful healthcare services, especially in the area of maternity and children’s health. In addition, the hospital provides secondary healthcare and hospitalisation to severely sick patients living on the island.
